Teleco Cup – Kam River Fighting Walleye Press Briefing

The Kam River Fighting Walleye are excited to welcome the Hearst Lumberjacks of the NOJHL to Norwest arena to compete for the TELECO Cup.

The Hearst team is always right there at the top of the NOJHL standings so this is sure to be a great match up between two strong hockey franchises. Kam river GM Kevin McCallum thinks this will be a great experience for his club “We are excited to welcome our friends from Hearst here for three games. It’s always exciting for our guys to see different teams in the preseason. It also allows our hockey ops the opportunity to see different players and start to mold our team”

TELECO has been the presenting sponsor of this preseason series since the beginning. Director of Operations for TELECO Penny Belluz states “The TELECO Cup exemplifies our commitment to supporting local sports and nurturing young talent in the world of hockey.  At TELECO, we value and recognize the broader positive impact that sports can have on individuals and communities. As a proud supporter of the Kam River Walleye, we eagerly look forward to a great weekend of Junior A hockey and extend a warm Thunder Bay welcome to the Hearst Lumberjacks.  Let’s play hockey!”

For the Fighting Walleye the TELECO Cup will be the start to a season where they look to defend the SIJHL championship they won last spring. New head coach Jesse Messier has been put in place to do just that. He is looking to use his coaching experience in both York in CIS hockey and in Saginaw in the OHL to guide the Walleye to another Bill Salonen Cup. Jesse knows that journey starts this weekend “Looking forward to seeing our team compete this weekend in the TELECO cup. It has been a really competitive camp so far and I know the players are excited to get into some preseason action in front of our home fans.”

Games will all be at Norwest Arena Friday and Saturday games will go at 730pm with Sundays puck drop at 12pm. Tickets can be purchased online at fightingwalleye.com or at the door. Doors will open one hour before puck drop.
